Founder Correspondent - Sivagami Pethachi

Smt. Sivagami Pethachi was the Founder Correspondent of M.CT.M. Chidambaram Chettyar Matriculation Higher Secondary School.

Around 1970, His Holiness Swami Chinmayananda, Founder of the Chinmaya Mission , invited her to help him start and build up a Chinmaya Mission School in Madras. Smt.Sivagami Pethachi readily responded to Swamiji’s call and started the very first Chinmaya Vidyalaya at Chetpet as the First Correspondent. She was largely responsible for the phenomenal growth of the school and its popularity. In 1980 , she started an educational institution, promoted by her family, in memory of her late father-in-law , Sri.M.CT.M. Chidambaram Chettyar.

Her earnest wish was that our school should be a unique institution in the city of Madras – a school with a difference. She sought the guidance of veteran educationists. She visited several leading schools in India and in the U.S.A., the U.K, Finland, Belgium, Singapore, China and some other foreign countries to gain knowledge of time-tested practices in building an educational institution of excellence.

The National Institution of Education Planning and Administration (NIEPA) , New Delhi, an apex Government of India Organization, involved in education, invited her to be a member on the panel for educational planning.

Under the able guidance of Smt.Sivagami Pethachi, the Matriculation school made rapid progress over the years. Unfortunately, before her dream could materialise, her life of service and dedication came to an end on 27th May 1990, when she was only 49 years of age. Her passing away was an irreparable loss to our school.

She endeared herself to all the members of staff and the students of the school. She was always keen that the school children should be excellent not only in academics but must also combine with it an insight into India’s rich cultural heritage and proficiency in co-curricular activities, sports and games.
